Insecurity: Parents Teachers Association calls for govt intervention
The National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has condemned the escalating insecurity in some parts of the country.

Also, the association, which is the umbrella body of all the parents of both public and private school students in the country called on the Federal Government to address the hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Dr Ademola Ekundayo in a statement urged the Federal Government to intervene in the harsh economic situation in the country.

He expressed worry on the debilitating impact of the continuous rise in fuel prices on Nigerian families and the alarming resurgence of insecurity across the nation.

Ekundayo stated that "the agony faced by Nigerian parents has reached an unbearable threshold. The ripple effect of escalating fuel costs has made daily school commute an arduous and often impossible task for millions of our children. This is a direct threat to basic education and the future of our nation."

He noted that the increased transportation fare is forcing many children out of school, adding that the economic burden occasioned by the current situation is worrisome.

"We are deeply saddened and perplexed by the renewed wave of violence. Where have we gone wrong as a nation, and what immediate steps are being taken to protect Innocent lives," he lamented.

He called on the government to immediately engage with all stakeholders, including parents, educators and security experts to devise and implement sustainable solutions.

He expressed the readiness of the association to collaborate with relevant agencies of government to proffer solutions to the problems confronting the education sector in the country.
