Adebimpe Ijarotimi becomes Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Renowned medical expert, Dr (Mrs) Adebimpe Omotade Ijarotimi has been promoted to the rank of a professor by the governing council of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife.
The promotion was announced recently by the university's management.
Prof. Ijarotimi who is said to be the first female professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTHC) Ile-Ife has written over 50 academic papers publishes both locally and internationally.
According to a statement made available to our correspondent, Prof Ijarotimi got qualified as a Medical Doctor from OAU, Ile-Ife, and graduated among the top five in her class.
She also has a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) from OAU and had her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, during which she won the Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria (SOGON) prize for the overall best candidate in Part one fellowship examinations.
The statement indicates that Prof Ijarotimi has over 50 published academic articles to her credit in peer-reviewed international and local journals.
"She is a peer reviewer for several academic journals and is an Examiner and Faculty Board member at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
"She is a passionate reproductive health advocate with certifications in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) as well as Family Planning from the World Health Organization/Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research.
"She is a Master Trainer for the Rotary International Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health. She is actively involved in training undergraduates and postgraduate Residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology," the statement added.
