Action Alliance: Court fixes date for hearing alleged contempt suit against INEC Chairman 
The Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital has fixed 22nd January, 2025 for hearing on the suit filed by the Action Alliance (AA) against the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on alleged contempt of court.

The Action Alliance had instituted a suit challenging the INEC Chairman on his failure to respect court judgments that pronounced Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the authentic national chairman of the AA.

The party is challenging the propriety of the INEC chairman to have given recognition to Mr Kenneth Udeze as the national chairman of the party, despite various court judgments that authenticate the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Udeze from the party.

The Abeokuta division of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had at different times upheld the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Udeze from the Action Alliance.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, the Presiding Judge, Justice Okeke assured that the court would expedite actions on the suit.

Action Alliance alleged that INEC action amount to contempt of court as the Court of Appeal had earlier upheld the suspension and expulsion of Udeze. This position had also been upheld by the Supreme Court that the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Udeze stands and subsists. 

The party also claimed that the decision of INEC to give recognition to Udeze amounts to contempt of court.

Barr. Adediran who claimed to be representing someone who is not a party in the matter claimed he was not served the process regarding the matter and Justice Okeke observed that the scenario was confusing to her.

She thereafter fixed 22nd January for hearing, directing that all parties should be duly served  before the date of adjournment.

Court grants Action Alliance order to serve INEC, Yakubu Contempt Form through substituted service  The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital has granted the Action Alliance (AA) an order for substituted service of contempt form (Form 49) on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its national chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu. The Action Alliance and some members of the party had through a motion exparte dated 14th April, 2025 sought an order for substituted service of Form 49 on INEC and its national chairman.
