My husband's new wife took my children away and took over my house- Mother of four alleges

A 43 year old mother of four identified as Mrs Adeola Onwukwe has alleged that her husband of 17 years, Chief Iyke David Ikechukwu Onwukwe sent her out of her matrimonial home because of a strange woman he met about six years ago named Chioma Esther who eventually took over her house and took away all her four children.

Besides, she alleged that her husband who now lives with the new wife, left her with no companion.

Mrs Onwukwe said the police failed to do anything on the matter since two years ago that she reported the case of maltreatment to them as the estranged husband was found of beating her even before she was allegedly sent packing from the house and the new wife took over the house, adding that she had been sent out of the house two times before the last one.

Mrs Onwukwe who lived together with her husband since their marriage about 17 years ago, said they lived at Diamond estate, Ajah in Lagos State where her husband has a mansion before he was forcefully ejected out of the house after the husband had married another woman.

The mother of four stated that she engaged the legal services of Mr Femi Falana and a lawyer in his (Falana) law firm, Mrs Kitan has been handling the matter for almost two years now.

According to her,  the matter was initially instituted at the Lagos State High Court, but later withdrew and currently before the Magistrate Court.

She is demanding for the order of the court for the full custody of her four children and an order compelling her husband to take full responsibility for the care and education of their children.

Also, Mrs Onwukwe who said the children had been taken to her husband's place in Oweri, the capital of Imo State where her husband currently lives with his new wife, said she had visited the husband's place on a number of times without due access to any of the children

She also alleged that her husband was found of sending threatening messages to her on WhatsApp, saying that the recent actions of her husband are threatening and unbecoming as he often tells her to "go to court. Everybody in Nigeria has a price."

She explained that the four children look shrink when she saw them last, adding that reports from people indicate that the children are maltreated and not well fed as they look lean.

Also, the mother of Mrs Onwukwe who is a 72 year old woman based in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, Mrs Victoria Adegoke has raised the alarm over the security of her daughter, Mrs Adeola Onwukwe.

To this end, the septuagenarian woman has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun and other heads of security agencies in the country to save the life of her 43 years old daughter from untimely death by her husband, as she is no longer stable owing to the current predicament occasioned by her husband's threatening actions.

Explaining her ordeal, the septuagenarian woman alleged that Onwukwe who has relocated from Lagos to Owerri, the Imo State capital had in 2022 beaten her daughter (Adeola) to pulp and sent her out of her matrimonial home for days, a situation which made the woman to sleep in different places including shops and churches.

The couple according to her had married over 17 years ago and lived together peacefully until a few years ago when the husband returned from a trip to Malaysia and began to show some uncharitable attitudes.

She said efforts to call the husband to order by her and some other members of her family proved abortive as he turned deaf ears to all the pieces of advice given to him by relatives and religious leaders who intervened in the crisis between them.

She said out of the five children her daughter have for Onwukwe, one died some years ago and remains four children comprising two girls and two boys who currently live with their father and his new wife in Imo State.

She informed that the matter is currently before the Lagos State Agency on Domestic Violence and a customary court sitting in Lagos for adjudication.

The grandmother who highlighted various instances of assault and abuse on her daughter, alleged that Onwukwe while living with her daughter at their residence in Ajah, Lagos beat her several times, sent her out of the house, embarrassed her in the public and sent her relatives out while on a visit to her to take care of her newly born child in 2020.

She maintained that her daughter, Adeola had suffered serious intimidation, depression and ailments as a result of the way her estranged husband treated her, causing her to be admitted at different hospitals at different times both in Lagos and Osun State.

Mrs Adegoke who cried intermittently while explaining her ordeal to our correspondent, also alleged that Onwukwe's elder sister (Mrs Eucharia) contributed to the plights of her daughter as his (Onwukwe) elder sister had openly confronted her and attempted to send her packing from her husband's house.

She informed that Onwukwe had eventually married another woman who already has two children for him but still in the custody of her four children, alleging that his new wife and other members of the family maltreat the four children and starve them of food as they now look lean.

Also, the grandmother who was unhappy with the current condition of her daughter said the Police have failed to provide necessary succor for the family despite the fact that the matter was reported to different police stations including that of Ajiwe and Alagbon in Lagos and the state police command in Imo State.

She said Adeola now suffers depression due to her inability to see her children for about 20 months, saying that the children are two young to be left without maternal care and attention as the oldest among them is 13 years of age.

Mrs Adegoke who is a widow of over 38 years standing appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun  to investigate the matter, especially the roles played by the police, with a view to reuniting the children with their mother.

She stated that her daughter is going through serious psychological trauma occasioned by her current predicament, hence the need for law enforcement agencies to come to her rescue.

The septuagenarian woman who maintained that her daughter's husband never reported her daughter to her for any wrong doing, urged eminent personalities and leaders of thoughts to prevent her from further suffering, stressing that all she wants now is for her daughter (Adeola) to be reunited with her four children to save her from further depression.

Also, she urged the Civil Society Organizations, women's Rights Groups and Non Governmental organizations, gender based groups and concerned Nigerians to rescue her daughter from her present predicaments.
