Gov Adeleke honoured with "2024 Ambassador of Plastic surgery in Nigeria" award

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke has been honoured with the award of the "Ambassador of the Plastic Surgery in Nigeria" for the year 2024.

The award was conferred on Governor Adeleke at the 29th Nigerian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (NAPRAS) and Nigerian Burn Injury Society (NBIS) Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held last week in the state.

The conference was hosted by the Chief Medical Director of the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Prof Peter Babatunde Olaitan who is also the President of the Nigerian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeons (NAPRAS).

The conference which was declared open by Governor Adeleke was also an avenue to recognize the philanthropic gesture of Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya who single handedly built and equipped 17 beded burn centre for UNIlORIN Teaching Hospital, while Prof. Ademola Popoola was awarded as the Honourary member of Nigerian Burn Injury Society. 

Speaking at the occasion, Prof Olaitan called for collaborative efforts with a number of other professionals including the anaesthetist and others, in order to ensure quality care to patients. 

Prof. Olaitan said the theme of this year's annual conference is "Head and Neck Reconstruction"while the the sub theme is " Plastic Surgery and Quality of life ".

The NAPRAS president appreciated Smile Train who is a major Sponsor of this year's Conference. 

He lauded excellence that the American Organization has brought to the sub region for over 25 years.

Prof. Olaitan revealed that thousands of children and adults have been taken care of and several families who had been troubled upon the birth of deformed Children have been united. 

He disclosed that several people have benefited from trainings funded by Smile Train while many Hospitals have been equipped. 

He hailed Smile Train and all the thousand of donors who continue to put smile on the faces of people across the world. 

The opening ceremony was graced by  Governor Adeleke who was represented by Dr Kolapo  Akinroye, Chairman Hospital Managememt Board, as well as Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola.
Alahji Sheriff Shagaya, Chief Medical Director, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso, Prof Olawale Olakulehin, management team of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
